Hej, Hej, Baby is a Czech-language hit song that was sung by Karel Gott and in the German-language version once around the world reached the top 10 of the German and the top 20 Austrian charts . The German version in particular is one of Gott's most famous songs.

Origin and text

The song was written by Karel Svoboda together with Jiří Štaidl and produced in the original Czech version by Štaidl with Michael Prostějovský. Otto Demler produced the German version . The German-language text, which was written by Fred Weyrich , is about the longing to be able to travel the world carefree and with sufficient financial means. The lack of freedom to travel in Czechoslovakia at that time and the closeness to the communist regime, which was at times accused of being close to the communist regime, which the normal citizen did not guarantee, but God did, form the historical framework for the song. The refrain reads: “Once around the whole world / and pockets full of money / that you do not miss any love or happiness. / See many foreign countries / go for a walk on the moon / I dreamed of that as a little boy. "

The song, especially the German version, is also included on various compilations . In 2009, Gott recorded a version of the title with Udo Lindenberg .

Gott did not appear in the ZDF hit parade with the 1970 song. However, he later sang it in two editions of the super hit parade , hits that you won't forget on November 18, 1982 and Die Superhitparade from ZDF Fernsehgarten 1969–1973 on August 28, 1994. He was also around on December 6, 1970 Peter Alexander in the ZDF / ORF program Peter Alexander presents specialties as a guest.
