Hekkie Budler (born May 18, 1988 in Johannesburg , South Africa ) is a South African professional boxer . He is the former world champion of the WBA in strawweight and current world champion of the associations IBF and WBA ( Superchampion ) as well as the world's most important and most popular boxing magazine The Ring in light flyweight .
Professional career
Light flyweight
He first competed in the light flyweight division and won in his professional debut over Michael Sediane in the first round by knockout. In 2009 he was African champion of the insignificant association IBO . He defended this title twice. In 2010 he won the IBO world championship belt, which he successfully defended once and already lost in his second title defense.
Straw weight
On September 24, 2011 Budler was also able to become IBO world champion in straw weight. Against the Argentine Hugo Hernan Verchelli he became interim world champion of the WBA with a knockout victory in the 4th round . On March 1, 2014, he secured himself with a first-round K. o. against the Colombian Karluis Diaz the vacant WBA world title. He defended this belt in 2015 against Pigmy Kokietgym by classic knockout in round 8 and against Xiong Chao Zhong, Jesus Silvestre and Simphiwe Khonco each by unanimous point decision.
To Byron Rojas Budler lost his world championship belt according to the version of the WBA on March 19 of the following year on points.
Again in light flyweight
The left wingman switched back to light flyweight, where he received the WBA Pan-African title in October of the same year by winning on points over Siyabonga Siyo . In the same year he beat Joey Canoy prematurely in round 8 and thereby won the IBO World Championship again.
In 2017 Budler fought against Milan Melindo for the IBF world championship belt and was defeated by a split judge's decision.
The following year he got the chance to become world champion again against the Japanese Ryōichi Taguchi ; this time it was about three titles: WBA ( super ), IBF and The Ring . Budler was able to win this battle extremely tightly, but deservedly (all three judges scored 114: 113 for Budler).
