Ryōichi Taguchi ( Japanese 田 口 良 一 , Taguchi Ryōichi ; born December 1, 1986 in Tokyo Prefecture , Japan ) is a Japanese professional boxer and current WBA world champion light flyweight .

Professional career

At the age of 19, Taguchi made his successful debut with the professionals. Already in his 10th fight he was defeated by his compatriot Masayoshi Segawa over eight rounds on points and had to accept his first bankruptcy. He only reached a draw when he faced Masayuki Kuroda for the Japanese championship title on March 12, 2013, which is why he did not achieve this belt. Only four months later he was allowed to box again for this belt against the previously undefeated Yuki Chinen and won over 10 rounds by unanimous decision.

He lost this title, however, in his next fight to the later WBC and WBO world champion Naoya Inoue by unanimous decision on points. At the end of December 2014, Taguchi became WBA world champion after beating Peruvian Alberto Rossel on points . In May 2015 he succeeded in defending this belt against Kwanthai Sithmorseng for the first time.
