She also writes columns for the Sunday Tribune (1992–1995) and RHS magazine, The Garden .
Life
As a child, Dillon had her own garden, and she mainly grew primroses. As a teenager, Dillon lived in Perth . She wanted to study art, but was forbidden to do so by her parents. So she took on an assistant position in the editorial team of Amateur Gardening magazine in London , where she met numerous well-known garden designers. She had an apartment with a balcony that was overcrowded with potted plants. Then she worked as an antique dealer. With her husband, Irishman Val Dillon (* 1936), also an antique dealer, she moved to Dublin in 1972 and laid out a garden around their house.
Garden design
The approximately 40,000 m 2 garden belongs to a representative Georgian stone house built in 1830 . It is one of the most famous Irish gardens and has been described by Christopher Lloyd , Robin Lane Fox and House and Garden magazine , among others . However, it is contaminated by honey fungus , vine weevils , algae and weeds and rust .
The plant is traditional, with numerous garden "rooms" as they carried Lauwrence Johnston in Hidcote were popularized in the 1920s, but enlivened by numerous exotic plants that thrive in the mild climate Irish. The center of the facility was an elongated lawn, which, following the example of Mount Stewart, was bordered by borders with a blue and red color scheme. In the meantime, the lawn has been replaced by a 28 m long canal modeled on the Myrtle Court of the Moorish Alhambra , which is lined with gray limestone slabs, and the color scheme of the borders has been loosened up somewhat. Dillon values exotic plants such as Dieramas , Cannas , Anisodonteas and Araliaceae . However, she is now trying to simplify her garden and prefers plants that sow themselves. The site also includes a vegetable garden, Dillon particularly appreciates cabbage and coriander. The garden was open to the paying public but was finally closed in September 2016. The family sold the house to build the new Dillon garden elsewhere.
