Until 2013, Hollick lived in Walthamstow with her husband Ron and their adult daughter Kathy. In early 2013 the family moved to North Devon to swap city life in London for a quieter and more rural way of life. In a review of King Harold , Cliff More wrote in the UK's Dorset Evening Echo : "What is most inspiring about Hollick is that she can produce such a mammoth book from a household where she is the only reader - both her husband and daughter suffering from severe dyslexia. " In German: "What inspires the most about Hollick is that she is the only reader in her household who can write such a mammoth work - her husband and daughter both suffer from severe dyslexia."
