Helena Tulve
Helena Tulve (born April 28, 1972 in Tartu , Estonian SSR ) is an Estonian composer .
life and work
Helena Tulve learned composition with Alo Põldmäe at the Tallinna Muusikakeskkool ( Tallinna Muusikakeskkool ) and from 1989 to 1992 studied with Erkki-Sven Tüür at the Tallinn State Conservatory . In 1994 she completed her studies with the Premier Prix with Jacques Charpentier at the Conservatoire de Paris . From 1993 to 1996 she continued her education in Paris . Since 2000 Helena Tulve has been a lecturer at the Estonian Music and Theater Academy in Tallinn and a freelance composer. In the same year she was awarded the Heino Eller Music Prize.
Helena Tulve belongs to the young, experimental generation of Estonian composers. In contrast to the neo-classical music trend, which works rhythm-centered, Tulve puts her emphasis on tone and sound. It is heavily influenced by the French school of spectral music , IRCAM experimental music, Gregorian chant and Eastern musical styles. Their works are played all over the world.
