Helga David

Helga David (born February 7, 1938 in Vienna ) is an Austrian theater director , actress and writer.

Live and act

David started out as an actress at the Volkstheater and the Theater in der Josefstadt (working with Gustav Manker , Erich Neuberg and Heinrich Schnitzler ). After that she spent many years in Germany working on the theater under directors such as Hansgünther Heyme , Hans Hollmann and P. Fischer. In 1976 she played "Libussa" in the play of the same name by Franz Grillparzer at the Wiener Festwochen . Several theater productions in which she was involved have received invitations to the Berlin Theatertreffen as well as to foreign guest performances in Milan, Belgrade, Prague, Genoa and Paris.

She started out as a director at the Staatstheater Stuttgart and the Landestheater Linz .

In 1989 David returned from Germany with successful productions, mostly self-written pieces and collages. In 1989, 1990 and 1994 she took part in world premieres as part of the Wiener Festwochen .

From 1998 to 2014 David was a successful summer theater director at Thalhof in Reichenau an der Rax / Lower Austria . According to Der Standard, the contract was not extended for the 2015 season in 2014. This was justified by the fact that the new owners of the Thalhof want to rethink the usage concept.

2011 Gold Medal for Services to the Republic of Austria .
