from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Helga Letzelter , born as Helga Krieß (* 1942 ) is a former German athlete and sports scientist .

Life

She was second in the high jump in 1969 and third in the German indoor championship in 1970. Her husband Manfred Letzelter looked after her as a trainer. At the indoor championship in 1969 she caused a stir because she used the then new jumping technique “ Fosbury flop ” and surprisingly won silver.

Letzelter, like her husband, became a professor of sports science at Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz . Among other things, she dealt with the topics of conditioning training, strength training, performance diagnostics, sports game research and sprint training. She worked on research and publications partly with her husband and later also with their son Stefan Letzelter , who like his parents was a top athlete and worked as a sports scientist.
