Henri Niesz

Henri Niesz (born October 30, 1886 in Geneva , † February 11, 1957 in Ennetbaden ) was a Swiss electrical engineer and director .

life and work

Niesz completed an apprenticeship as an electrical engineer at the Technical University of Munich and then worked in the project planning and construction management of hydraulic and thermal centers as well as power lines in Bavaria and Austria .

Niesz dealt in particular with problems in the energy industry and in 1916 joined the Baden- based "Motor AG", later Motor-Columbus AG, in order to oversee the developing energy business. From 1927 Niesz was a member of the executive board, from 1930 director and from 1951 president of the board. In 1954 Niesz resigned and was appointed Vice Chairman of the Board of Directors.

Niesz wrote numerous publications and was active on various boards of directors, boards and commissions. So he was u. a. Member of the board of the "Association of Swiss Electricity Companies", the "Federal Water Management Commission", board member of the "Swiss National Committee of the World Power Conference", member of the organization "Européenne de Coopération Economique" (OECE) and "Union Internationale des Producteurs et Distributeurs d'Energie Electrique" (UNIPEDE).

During the Second World War , Niesz was the Federal Council's special commissioner for the electricity industry from 1941 to 1946 . In 1950, the ETH Zurich awarded him an honorary doctorate in technical sciences honaris causa for his services to the development of the electricity supply and his work in securing the national supply with electrical energy .

In 1943, Niesz founded the private Swiss committee for economic participation in European reconstruction, the so-called “Komitee Niesz”, and was a member of the board of trustees for the Baden Cantonal School .
