José de Lima Figueiredo

José de Lima Figueiredo , also known as Lima Figueiredo , (born June 2, 1902 in Rio de Janeiro , † June 3, 1956 ibid) was a Brazilian general , parliamentarian and author of writings on military-geographic-political content.

Life

Lima Figueiredo was the son of Francisco de Figueiredo and Adelia Bruce Mariz Sarmento Figueiredo, his younger brother was the general Francisco de Lima Figueiredo (* 1906). He had entered the military academy Escola Militar do Realengo in Rio de Janeiro in February 1920 and left it in December 1922 for an officer training in the army ( Exército Brasileiro ) of the armed forces (Forças Armadas do Brasil) .

For a long time of his life he was director of the former railway company Estrada de Ferro Noroeste do Brasil (NOB).

In 1923 he married Tercilia da Silva Catão (1900-1976), with whom he had seven children, in his second marriage he was married to Maria Augusta Figueiredo, with whom he had another son. He was buried in Rio de Janeiro in the Cemitério São João Baptista cemetery in Rio de Janeiro.

Military career

In May 1923 he was promoted to second lieutenant, in July 1924 to first lieutenant and in August 1931 to captain, then colonel ( coronel ), most recently he was division general of the Arma de Engenharia . This military service coincided with the revolution of 1930 and directly during the terms of office of President Getúlio Vargas and Eurico Gaspar Dutra . As a military attaché at the Brazilian embassy in Tokyo , he was an observer of the Second Sino-Japanese War . He had also become a member of the military cabinet of President Eurico Gaspar Dutra.

Political career

He had joined the Partido Social Democrático (PSD) founded in 1945 , ran for the Brazilian elections in 1950 and was elected to the Chamber of Deputies of the National Congress with 11,945 votes for the state of São Paulo for the 39th legislative period (1951–1955) . The mandate ended in January 1955.

Writing career

Lima Figueiredo wrote on historical, geographical and military-political subjects. His biographical work Grandes Soldados do Brasil about important military figures in Brazil was published several times. In keeping with the times, the works across the borders of Brazil, the interior, the northwest and the northern region met with interest in moving west .

His publications led to academic recognition, he was an active member of the Sociedade de Geografia do Rio de Janeiro and the National Geographic Society in Washington, DC , honorary member of the Instituto Histórico e Geográfico Paranaense, corresponding member of the Instituto Histórico e Geográfico Sulriograndense, technical advisor for Regional geography of the Conselho Nacional de Geografia (National Council for Geography), member of the editorial commissions of the Revista Brasileira de Geografia and the Biblioteca Geográfica Brasileira , he also taught at the Instituto Militar de História e Geografia.
