Brainyoo is learning card software based on the card principle by Sebastian Leitner and was developed by BRAINYOO Mobile Learning GmbH. With the help of the learning software , users can create their own flashcards and learn alone or in groups, or buy pre-made digital flashcards in the Brainyoo shop and learn them using different learning modes.

In addition to the flashcard app for iOS and Android, Brainyoo is also available as an installable version for Windows and Mac and as an application for the web browser. The learning app and learning software are available in a free and advertising-financed version as well as in a paid premium version with additional functions.

background

The first version of Brainyoo was developed by Filip Lyncker and Armin Theis and as part of Brainyoo Ltd. offered as installable software for Mac and PC. Filip Lyncker came up with the idea of writing such software while on a stay abroad in Brazil. He wanted to learn Portuguese vocabulary digitally, but couldn't find an existing software solution. The software is still available today in German, English and Portuguese. The further development to Brainyoo 2.0 came with the establishment of BRAINYOO Mobile Learning GmbH in Wiesbaden in 2012 by Filip Lyncker, Armin Theis and Patrick Schmidt. After the original software was available for Mac and PC, the learning software is now being expanded to include mobile devices, smartphones and tablets. Brainyoo becomes a multi-platform solution for schools, training, studies and companies.

functionality

Brainyoo is index card software that enables users to create their own index cards using the WYSIWYG editor. In addition to various types of tasks such as fill-in-the-blank, multiple choice and assignment tasks, users can also create films and audio books as lessons. In addition, users can import e-books as XML files and use them to create a lesson. When learning, users can choose between three learning modes:

  • the power mode for immediate and intensive preparation for an upcoming exam,
  • the long-term mode (according to Leitner ) to prepare for a final examination in the future such as a state examination or the Abitur and
  • the exam mode for the final knowledge check before a test.

With the help of statistics, for example in the form of a pie chart, users are shown the current status of their learning success.

As a software, Brainyoo stands out from other digital card trainers through various aspects. Brainyoo is available on all operating systems, has the power mode listed above and is supplemented by gamification . The Brainyoo BrainBattle is a live quiz game and multiplayer game that users can play with each other. Alternatively, teachers can use the BrainBattle as a quiz opportunity for their classes. Brainyoo users also have the option of creating learning groups. With the help of learning groups, content can be shared, tests can be written and learning statistics can be viewed by the group leader. Another unique feature is the white label capability of Brainyoo: businesses, schools and universities can Brainyoo provide their internal users under their own name.
