In 1997, the Klett Group took over the distance academy for adult education and other distance schools. With the acquisition, the Klett Group increased its sales and profits significantly. Due to sustained growth, the Fernakademie für Adultbildung moved into a new training center in Hamburg-Rahlstedt in 2008 . This has seminar rooms , administration offices and its own print shop . Other companies belonging to the German Training Association are also based in the building.

In 1989 the distance academy for adult education comprised around 80 courses. It was continuously expanded in the following years, for example in the areas of foreign languages and tourism . In 2006, attention was paid to an initiative by the Fernakademie für Adultbildung, which aimed to get mothers back into work . In 2007, the DistancE-Learning industry association awarded the distance academy for adult education the “Service Study Prize” for its services. The distance academy for adult education is divided into three specialist academies. The area of general education, media and health comprises a total of over 100 courses in six specialist areas. In addition, participants can exchange ideas in an online study center, in which, among other things, all documents are made available digitally.
