Sebastian Leitner

Sebastian Leitner (* 1919 in Salzburg ; † 1989 ) was a German publicist .

Life

Because of his hostile attitude towards the annexation of Austria to the German Reich, he was briefly imprisoned in 1938. He later moved to Frankfurt am Main to finish his law degree. In 1942 he was drafted into the Wehrmacht and taken prisoner by the Soviets.

After returning to Germany in 1949, he began working as a publicist . He initially devoted himself to legal and sociological, and later also medical and psychological topics.

Leitner also worked as a translator . For example, he translated the books Die “Gute Mutter” Marie de Sales Chappuis and A World to Fall in Love from French into German.

He became known for his development of a learning system with index cards . The book with which he introduced this learning method has been and is regularly reprinted and was published in Lithuanian in 1998 and in Russian in 2019.

Leitner married the Austrian journalist and writer Thea Knappe (1921–2016).
