Helicon was a German heavy metal band. She had greater success in Asia. With the exception of Uwe Heepen, all members have withdrawn from the active music business. Uwe Heepen died on October 7, 2013.

Band history

Uwe Heepen founded the band in 1987 with Kurt Reichert, who cannot be heard on any record. The line-up was completed by Manfred Pütz, Guido Kaul and Andrea Münster.

After the demo Helicon (1989) the band signed their first record deal with Cauldron Records from Düsseldorf. The following year there were disagreements with the record company and they separated out of court. In between there were always line-up changes. Without a record deal, Helicon recorded titles for a debut CD on its own. During the production, singer Andrea Münster and guitarist Volker Marx separated from the band. Then Uwe Heepen took over the singing. Karl Walterbach (head of Noise Records ) saw in Helicon the potential to follow in Helloween's footsteps . He signed an international record deal with the band, which consisted only of Uwe Heepen, which consisted of two CD releases.

In the same year the debut CD was released and Helicon toured Germany on a five-day mini-tour with Gamma Ray and Rage . Helicon had the greatest success in Japan, followed by Scandinavian countries, Spain, Greece and England.

After the tour, the band Helicon released their second album, Mysterious Skipjack , which came under great time pressure. In contrast to the debut, the reviews in the music magazines were moderate and sales of the record fell short of expectations. The record deal, which ran on two albums, was not renewed and the band no longer played live. Frustrated by constant line-up changes, Helicon broke up in 1997.
