Saint Helier (or Helerius ; † 555 ) was an ascetic hermit in the 6th century. Tradition has passed down 555 as the year of his martyrdom . He is said to have been a student of St. Markulf and perished on the Channel Island of Jersey . Name day is July 16. Year after year, on July 17th, pilgrims gather at the Hermitage rock to celebrate a service in honor of the saint. The relics were kept in the Beaubec monastery in Normandy .

He is the patron saint of the island of Jersey. The capital of this island, Saint Helier , and several villages, churches and fountains in Normandy and Brittany, such as the villages of Saint-Élier and Saint-Hellier (Normandy), Saint- Helier churches in Beuzeville , Rennes , Amécourt , Monhoudou , Saint-Helier fountains in Bréville-sur-Mer , Saint-Hellier and Saint-Jouan-des-Guérets ( Ille-et-Vilaine ) are named after him.

A borough of London in the borough of Sutton is named after Saint Helier.
