The Helios Kliniken Schwerin is located in the Lewenberg district between the Ziegelsee and Medeweg lakes, not far from Bundesstraße 106 at Wismarsche Straße 397. The clinic has 1,615 patient beds, making it one of the largest hospitals in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania. The Helios Kliniken Schwerin are academic teaching hospitals of the University of Rostock.
history
In 1999 the medical center was formed from the clinical center and the mental hospital.
In 2004 the city of Schwerin sold 94.9 percent of the medical center to Helios Kliniken GmbH . The city became minority shareholders with a few percent remaining and provides members for the supervisory board.
Numerous structural works followed. Among other things, a new radiation clinic, two new outpatient departments, a hospital pharmacy and two new wards were built. A 24-hour day care center was built on the site. The emergency room was also modernized in 2010.
After the takeover, there should have been personnel cuts in the service area. The situation in the care sector was criticized in a report by the NDR in 2011.
The Helios Kliniken Schwerin and the Rostock University Medical Center have been cooperating since January 1, 2016. Together they run a heart center in Schwerin, where cardiac surgery patients are treated.
