The Heliport Pozzallo ( Italian Eliporto di Pozzallo - Base Offshore “Giorgio La Pira” ) is a heliport near Pozzallo , in the south of Sicily .
location
The heliport is located around two kilometers southwest of the city center, right by the commercial port of Pozzallo. It can be reached via the provincial road SP66 and Viale Australia .
Infrastructure
The area of the heliport is around five hectares. The concreted Final Approach and Take Off Area (FATO) with the orientation 12/30 is 250 meters long and 60 meters wide, the Touchdown and Lift-Off Area (TLOF) measures 28 × 28 meters. The system is equipped with night flight lights. Next to the landing area are two hangars and a fire station ( fire protection category H2 ). In the far north there is a small terminal building on Viale Australia . Larger parking spaces are available in the east.
use
The heliport is used for air rescue , private and charter flights as well as for flights to drilling platforms in the Strait of Sicily and in the sea area between Sicily and Malta . The operator of the heliports Pozzallo and Syracuse ( ⊙ ) is the company Elisicilia .
history
The heliport was built in 2000 in the industrial area near the port of Pozzallo and initially consisted of a landing pad and two buildings. In 2008 it was named after Giorgio La Pira, a politician from Pozzallo who was, among other things, mayor of Florence . The two hangars were built in 2012.
