East Prussia

East Prussian landscapes and still lifes determined the beginning of their journey through life . These early works are characterized by an idyllic and nature-loving character. Hella Hirschfelder-Stüve repeatedly painted the places of her childhood and youth in restrained colors. The early interest in art was supported by parents. They enabled their daughter to study at the Königsberg Art Academy .

Berlin

The desire for further training led the artist to the Berlin Academy of the Arts . She was fascinated by the pulsating life of this big city in the legendary twenties . The clash of modernity and past and the cultural diversity made her subjects of her works. In contrast to East Prussia , Hella Hirschfelder-Stüve in Berlin primarily focused on graphics .

Osnabrück

Meanwhile married to Hans Heinrich Hirschfelder, her life took her to Osnabrück, where she established herself as an artist and participated in many exhibitions. 1944 was her husband. After the war she joined the newly founded Federal Association of Visual Artists. In 1948 she married Dietrich Stüve. In the following creative period, her style matured and numerous portraits, still lifes with flowers and views of Osnabrück were created. The coloring was determined by light and luminous colors, the brushstroke more dynamic and free.

to travel

In the 1950s and 1960s, Hella Hirschfelder-Stüve was finally able to travel. Her travel destinations were repeatedly in Italy, but also Paris , Amrum and Sylt . The landscape painted with a powerful application of paint was the predominant motif at this time. But there were also pictures with characteristic buildings of the travel locations as well as very poetic watercolors .

Solo exhibitions

Dr. Heinrich Hirschfelder, the artist's son, and students of the Art History Institute of the University of Osnabrück , was devoted to the life and work of the Osnabrück artist in four stations. Selected works from several phases of life were shown. They documented the artist's willingness to experiment in various genres and techniques, but also her rejection of the abstract art that was dominant in the post-war period . This marks many artists of the forgotten generation to which they belong.
