Josef Hellenbrock

Josef Hellenbrock (born January 26, 1900 in Bad Reichenhall , † April 7, 1977 in Krefeld ) was a German politician of the SPD .

Life and work

Hellenbrock receives the Federal Cross of Merit in 1965

After elementary school , Hellenbrock, who was non-denominational, completed an apprenticeship as lathe operator and worked in this profession until 1927. From 1933 on, Hellenbrock was initially unemployed. From 1935 to 1938 he was imprisoned for alleged high treason. After his release from prison he worked again as a lathe operator until the end of the war.

Political party

Hellenbrock was active in the socialist youth workers from 1920 to 1928 . In 1922 he joined the SPD. From 1927 to 1933 he worked full-time for the SPD.

Hellenbrock was for a short time in 1933 and then again from 1945 to 1970 city councilor in Krefeld, after the Second World War as chairman of the SPD parliamentary group. In 1946/47 he was a member of the Appointed State Parliament of North Rhine-Westphalia in both terms of appointment . From March 18, 1949, when he replaced the deceased Ernst Gnoss , until 1950 he was a member of the first elected state parliament in North Rhine-Westphalia . From 1953 to 1969 he was a member of the German Bundestag , always elected via the state list of North Rhine-Westphalia .

Public offices

Hellenbrock was Lord Mayor of Krefeld from 1956 to 1961 . Then he was first deputy mayor until 1970.

honors and awards

Hellenbrock received the Federal Cross of Merit in 1965 and was made an honorary citizen of Krefeld in 1970. According to him, this is Josef Bright Brock House of SPD named in Krefeld.
