Hellion is a power metal band from California , USA .

history

In 1982 Hellion was founded around the singer Ann Boleyn in Los Angeles . The group began as a cover band and played various hard rock classics by Ozzy Osbourne , Scorpions and AC / DC . Boleyn actually started out as the group's keyboardist , but soon took over the vocals.

The group developed a good reputation in the club scene and was voted "LA's best metal band" by Streetzine magazine. In late 1982, Mystic Records, a punk label from Hollywood, signed the band. Shortly before the recording, however, Peyton Tuthill left the band, because he could not do anything with the occult side of Ann Boleyn and was replaced by Rik Foxx, who left the band after a very short time. At the last minute he was replaced by Brian West. A few months later a single was released with Bitch . In 1983 Hellion had a proper line-up with bassist Bill Sweet and a second lead guitarist, Alan Barlam.

Hoping to get signed to a bigger label, the band went to Fiddler's studio in Hollywood to record a demo . The basic tracks were recorded in one evening, between midnight and 7 a.m. Guitar solos and vocals and the final mix followed the next day. The hoped-for record deal did not materialize, however. Because the band did not have the means to produce enough demo cassettes, they founded Bongus Lodus Records and made their first record themselves. The 12 '' was also listed in the import charts in the Kerrang and Aardschok . As a result, the London-based record company Music for Nations pricked up their ears. She signed Hellion so they could release their first self-titled mini-LP in January 1984. The group then went on a chaotic tour of the UK and played at the legendary Marquee Club . The bad organization and completely hasty tour brought Hellion to the brink of financial ruin.

Although they had success in England, and later received support from Ronnie James Dio and his managers Wendy Dio and Curt Lorraine, they still had no record deal in America. Thereupon the members of the band separated again in early 1985. Ann Boleyn looked for new members. The former members founded the Burn group .

Ann Boleyn recorded a new demo with Alex Campbell (bass), Chet Thompson (guitar) and Greg Pecka (ex- Dokken , drums), followed shortly afterwards by the debut album Screams in the Night . However, this line-up also broke up quite quickly when the three new members wanted to go more into the more commercial hair metal direction.

In 1988 Postcards from the Asylum was released , again with the line-up of the first mini-LP, only without Glenn Cannon, who was replaced by Dave Dutton. In 1989, Boleyn founded her own label New Renaissance and published there (again with a new line-up) the LP The Black Book . The concept album tells the story of Boleyn's family, who would have magical abilities. The concept became especially popular in the former Soviet Union and Hellion toured there. Then the group broke up.

In 2003 Hellion returned and released the album Will Not Go Quietly . In 2014 Maxxxwell Carlisle joined as a guitarist.
