Hellmut Reichel

Hellmut Reichel (born July 26, 1916 in Brieg , Silesia , † November 6, 2012 in Königsfeld in the Black Forest ) was a German clergyman and bishop of the Moravian Brethren .

Life

Reichel graduated from high school in 1936. He later took part in World War II. After the war he studied theology and passed the second state examination in 1952. He received his first church position in Hanover, but was called to Basel in 1955. In 1977 he was elected bishop. In 1974 he moved to Königsfeld in the Black Forest, and Reichel had been retired since 1981. For his commitment to Zinzendorf research, the Evangelical Theological Faculty of the University of Bern awarded him an honorary doctorate in 1989.

Reichel was married and had four children. His son Christoph Reichel was also a member of the board of the European-Continental Province of the Brethren .
