Helma Schmitt

Helma Schmitt (born December 10, 1931 in Haßloch ) is a German politician ( CDU ).

Life and work

Schmitt attended a home economics college and the German Farmers College in Fredeburg . She then completed a dressmaker's and rural housekeeping apprenticeship and obtained her master craftsman's certificate in 1957 . As a self-employed farmer, she runs an emigrant farm.

politics

From 1960 to 1979 Schmitt was a member of the Haßloch municipal council . In 1979 she was the first female farmer to be elected to a German state parliament, the Rhineland-Palatinate state parliament, of which she was a member until 1995. There she was Landtag Vice President from 1991 until she left parliament.

Honors

In 1989 Schmitt was awarded the Federal Cross of Merit on ribbon . The Minister-President of Rhineland-Palatinate awarded her the title of economist. The community of Haßloch honored her with the gold medal of merit.
