Helmen Kütt (born July 28, 1961 in Viljandi , Estonian SSR ) is an Estonian politician . She belongs to the Estonian Social Democratic Party (SDE). From March 2014 to April 2015, Kütt was Minister of Social Affairs of the Republic of Estonia.

Early years

Helmen Kütt graduated from secondary school in Suure-Jaani in 1979 and then studied at the Viljandi Culture Academy until 1984 .

She initially worked at the Viljandi District Telephone Exchange from 1979 to 1981. From 1981 to 1992 Kütt worked as a typist and office manager for a mechanized construction company in Viljandi. In 1992/93 she was secretary of the Estonian Red Cross .

From 1993 to 2011, Kütt worked in various positions in the city administration of Viljandi, including as a social worker, deputy mayor (2001–2005) and head of the social welfare office. In 2003 she passed her master's degree in social work at the Tallinn University of Education .

In 1999 and 2007 she ran unsuccessfully for the Estonian Parliament ( Riigikogu ). From 2006 to 2010 Kütt was a member of the Estonian People's Union ( Eestimaa Rahvaliit ). In 2011 she joined the Estonian Social Democratic Party (SDE).

From 2011 to 2014 Helmen Kütt was a member of the SDE in the Riigikogu . On March 26, 2014, she joined the social-liberal coalition government of Prime Minister Taavi Rõivas as Minister of Social Affairs . She held the office until April 9, 2015. After leaving the cabinet, she returned to the Estonian parliament as a member.

Private life

Helmen Kütt is married. She has a daughter and a son. Kütt was involved in the diaconal work of the Estonian Evangelical Lutheran Church (EELK) for many years .
