Helmine hero
Helmine Johanna Charlotte Held (born June 23, 1916 in Schifferstadt ; † December 31, 2002 in Grünwald ) was a German nurse.
Career
Held spent her childhood and youth in Ludwigshafen. In 1935 she began her training as a nurse. During the Second World War she was employed as a Red Cross nurse in the Air Force Medical Service. From 1945 until her retirement in July 1982 she was Superior General of the Bavarian Red Cross . After the war she had the Red Cross Hospital in Munich rebuilt. 4,000 Red Cross Sisters were trained under her leadership.
