Helmold Wilhelm Wrangel (* 1599 in Finland , † August 25, 1647 near Třebel ) was a major general . Sometimes he is mistakenly referred to as the son of Swedish Field Marshal Carl Gustav Wrangel , but he was Hermann Wrangel's cousin .

biography

At the end of 1633 Helmold Wrangel became lieutenant colonel in the Delloney cavalry regiment and garrison commander in Babenhausen (Swabia) . After the battle of Wittstock on October 4, 1636, he was appointed colonel . In 1644 he took part in a sea ​​battle between Sweden and Denmark during the Torstensson War. A year later, Wrangel was promoted to major general of the cavalry . Wrangel died on August 25, 1647 of his injuries sustained in the battle of Třebel against imperial troops under Johann von Werth. He was buried in the grave chapel of St. Marienkirche in Wismar , where he was allegedly shown to visitors as a "horrible mummy". His grave monument together with his wife can be found in the Gothic cellar vault of the town hall of Wismar.
