Helmut Bertalanffy

Helmut Bertalanffy (born April 5, 1954 in Timișoara ) is a German neurosurgeon .

Career

Bertalanffy completed his studies in human medicine at the Albert Ludwigs University in Freiburg im Breisgau in 1983, obtained his doctorate in 1986 and has been a specialist in neurosurgery since 1990. From 1990 to 1992 he was a scholarship holder of the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation (Bonn) and the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (Tokyo / Japan) in Tokyo, at the Keiō University . In 1992 he returned to Germany and took over the position of senior physician in charge of the neurosurgical clinic at RWTH Aachen University . In 1994 he completed his habilitation. For his habilitation thesis he received the " Friedrich Wilhelm Prize " from the Friedrich Wilhelm Foundation of RWTH Aachen University for outstanding scientific achievements. In 1996 Bertalanffy was appointed to the chair of neurosurgery by the Philipps University of Marburg , where he held the position of clinic director from 1997 to 2007. In 2007 he moved to Zurich as director of the Neurosurgical University Hospital Zurich . Since 2011 he has been Director of Vascular Neurosurgery at the International Neuroscience Institute private clinic .

Specialties

Bertalanffy's specialties are vascular neurosurgery and skull base surgery. Here are its main points of treatment brainstem - cavernomas and - gliomas , complex skull base lesions , deep brain tumors and Hirngefäß- aneurysms and lesions on the head and neck junction.

Scientific achievement

Due to his scientific contributions in the fields of vascular neurosurgery, microsurgery of brain stem lesions and skull base surgery, Bertalanffy gave over 400 lectures as a guest speaker at numerous international congresses.

He was also editor-in-chief of the scientific journal Neurosurgical Review (2004–2016) for twelve years and is a reviewer for several international neurosurgical journals.

His list of publications includes over 180 articles as first author or co-author in peer-reviewed journals, more than 50 book chapters and other specialist articles. Most of the publications can be found on Pubmed.
