Helmut Burkard

Helmut Burkard (born May 16, 1947 in Graz as the son of Otto Burkard ) is Episcopal Vicar and em. Vicar General of the Diocese of Graz-Seckau .

Life

After graduating from the 2nd BRG (Pestalozzigymnasium) in 1965, Helmut Burkard studied theology at the Catholic Theological Faculty of the University of Graz . In 1970 he graduated with an Absolutorium in Theology and was then from 1970 to 1971 university assistant at the Institute for Philosophy and Fundamental Theology of the Theological Faculty of the University of Graz. He was ordained a priest in Graz Cathedral on June 27, 1971, followed by a chaplaincy in several parishes in Styria . He was also spiritual at the episcopal seminary from 1978–1989 , pastor of Fernitz from 1989–1995 and pastoral director from 1996–1997, and completed his master's degree in theology in 1984.

In 1997 he was accepted into the Graz Cathedral Chapter and on September 1st he was reappointed Vicar General of the Diocese of Graz-Seckau under Bishop Johann Weber and under Bishop Egon Kapellari in March 2001. He was appointed prelate in 1998. On August 31, 2011, Burkard resigned as vicar general of the Graz-Seckau diocese, but remains dean of the cathedral chapter. Heinrich Schnuderl was his successor . He is currently Episcopal Vicar for Pastoral Care.
