Helmut Eichholzer

Helmut "Heli" Eichholzer (born December 16, 1975 in Kuchl ) is an Austrian paraglider pilot and former wrestler .

Career as a wrestler

Before his career as a paraglider pilot, Eichholzer was a wrestler. After an eighth place at the European Youth Championships in 1994, he won the state championship in 1995 in the weight class up to 57 kg. In 2000 he won the team title with AC Wals .

Career as a paraglider pilot

Eichholzer is six times Austrian national champion in paragliding (2003, 2005, 2006, 2008, 2011 and 2013). Since 2002 he has had a permanent place in the Austrian national team, with which he won the silver medal at the 2003 World Cup in Portugal . At the same event, he finished 5th in the individual competition. At the 2009 World Cup in Mexico , he finished 8th. In 2011 he set a new world record with a distance of 268.5 km ( FAI triangle ).

In 2005 Eichholzer took part in the second Red Bull X-Alps for the first time and reached the finish in Monaco in 4th place . In his second participation in 2009 he was disqualified due to an airspace violation and in his last participation in 2011 he reached 13th place. He did not take part in the 2013 event, but acted as an expert for daily reporting on the Austrian broadcaster ServusTV .

Awards

In 2004 he received the Silver Medal of Honor for Services to the Republic of Austria .
