Helmut Erb

Helmut Erb (* 1945 in Speyer ) is a German trumpeter as well as a university professor and university president in Würzburg.

Career

During his musical training, Helmut Erb attended the State University for Music and Performing Arts Mannheim between 1961 and 1968 . Further studies at the State University for Music and Performing Arts in Stuttgart with Heinz Burum followed . In Paris he learned from Jean Pirot.

In 1968 he was principal trumpeter with the Stuttgart Philharmonic, and in 1969 he was appointed principal trumpeter at the Badische Staatskapelle Karlsruhe . During this time, Erb continued to take private lessons from Professor Adolf Scherbaum . In 1970 he moved to the Frankfurt Radio Symphony Orchestra as first solo trumpeter . Since then, Erb has been an intensive soloist in various casts. Helmut Erb has been passing on the experience he has gained in the orchestras to his students since 1979 as a lecturer, since 1982 as a professor for trumpet and wind instruments at the Musikhochschule in Würzburg, as well as in master classes at home and abroad. Werner Heckmann and Johann Konnerth are among his students .

Helmut Erb was appointed President of the University of Music Würzburg in 2007. He was visiting professor at Yonsei University in Seoul and at North-Western University Chicago.

Southwest German baroque soloists

Helmut Erb founded the South West German Baroque Soloists in 1982, which include high trumpet , oboe, bassoon, double bass and harpsichord. Helmut Erb arranges original templates for this unusual formation - following the baroque tradition - which he adapts to the special needs and possibilities of the seven musicians.
