Heinz Burum

Heinrich "Heinz" Burum (born December 18, 1905 in Brühl , † December 20, 1989 in Düren ) was a German classical trumpeter and university teacher .

Career

Heinz Burum was born in Brühl in the Rhineland in 1905. He started playing the trumpet at the age of seven on a bass trumpet , and later switched to the normal trumpet . After taking lessons with some military trumpeters and working for various brass bands, he became a student of Ludwig Werle in 1924 and later began studying music with him at the Cologne University of Music . During his studies he became Werle's assistant until his final exam in 1929. First he worked as a solo trumpeter with the Cologne Philharmonic Orchestra.

From 1932 he was a trumpeter at the Metropoltheater Berlin , at the Scala Varietétheater Berlin and at the same time in the house orchestra of the record company Electrola . Positions as solo trumpeter at the Berlin Radio Orchestra and the Bruckner Orchestra in Linz followed. From 1946 to 1970 he worked as solo trumpeter at the Württemberg State Theater in Stuttgart . On October 23, 1950 he was appointed chamber musician and on February 18, 1954, he was appointed chamber virtuoso .

Teaching

From 1946 onwards, Heinz Burum taught trumpet at the State University for Music and Performing Arts in Stuttgart . On November 12, 1985 he was appointed professor. In the course of his teaching activities he trained around 1,000 trumpeters. Heinz Burum's students include Helmut Erb and Dieter Kanzleiter .
