Helmut Haeusgen

Helmut Haeusgen (born February 11, 1916 in Alexandria , Egypt , † December 27, 1989 in Frankfurt am Main ) was a German bank manager. He was the spokesman for the board of directors and chairman of the supervisory board of Dresdner Bank .

Life

Haeusgen attended school in Alexandria, but passed the Abitur in 1933 in Schondorf am Ammersee . He then joined the Alexandria branch of Dresdner Bank as an apprentice, where he learned the banking business from scratch. In 1937 he was called up for military service and took part in the Africa campaign , as a first lieutenant in Rommel's staff and at times as an employee of Abwehr chief Canaris . After his return from captivity, Haeusgen first worked in the foreign department of the Munich branch of Dresdner Bank, then in Düsseldorf. From 1954 to 1960 he headed the newly established Middle East representative office of Dresdner Bank in Cairo . He then became one of the co-managers in the Munich branch. In 1964 the bank appointed him deputy and in 1967 full board member in Frankfurt / Main. On the Board of Directors of Dresdner Bank, Haeusgen was primarily responsible for international banking. On his initiative, the bank put its international activities on a new, multi-pronged basis. Own branches and representative offices as well as subsidiaries and financial holdings were set up in the important financial centers of all continents. The establishment of Société Financière Européene (SFE) in 1976 and the Associated Banks of Europe Corporation (ABECOR) in 1972 are closely linked to his name.

After the assassination of Jürgen Pontos , he was appointed spokesman for the board in 1977, and in 1978 he moved to the position of chairman of the supervisory board, which he held until 1988.
