Helmut Klapper (biologist)

Helmut Klapper (born June 2, 1932 in Rutenau ; † June 19, 2019 ) was a German limnologist .

Life

He studied biology in Leipzig from 1951 to 1956. In his diploma thesis with Arno Wetzel , he examined the inlets and fore basins of the Saidenbach Dam under limnological aspects. From 1956 he worked in the VEB Wasserwirtschaft Magdeburg. After receiving his doctorate in 1962 and his habilitation in 1978 at the TU Dresden , where he also worked as a guest lecturer, after German reunification he was head of the standing water research department at the newly founded Institute for Water Research at the GKSS Research Center. In 1990 Klapper was appointed a member of the Academy of Non-Profit Science in Erfurt . The Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg appointed him honorary professor in 1992.
