Helmut Lenders

Helmut Lenders (born August 13, 1922 , † January 20, 2002 in Düsseldorf ) was a German trade union secretary and politician ( GVP , SPD ).

Life and work

After attending elementary school , Lenders completed a commercial apprenticeship and took part in the Second World War as a soldier from 1941 to 1945 . In 1947 he joined the union. He attended the Dortmund Social Academy in 1950/51 , was education secretary at the DGB in North Rhine-Westphalia from 1951 to 1959 and then until 1969 executive chairman in the DGB district of Düsseldorf. From 1984 to 1994 he was President of the Consumers Association

Political party

Lenders joined the GVP in 1952, but left the party two years later and joined the SPD in 1956. From 1963 to 1971 he was deputy chairman and from 1971 to 1983 chairman of the SPD sub-district of Düsseldorf.

MP

Lenders was a member of the German Bundestag from 1965 to 1980. In parliament he represented the constituency of Düsseldorf II . From 1969 to 1976 he was a member of the board and from 1973 to 1976 parliamentary director of the SPD parliamentary group.
