Helmut R. Schulze

Helmut R. Schulze (born January 17, 1929 in Bad Liebenwerda ) is a German photo journalist .

life and work

He lives and works in Heidelberg . Schulze has accompanied well-known politicians including Richard von Weizsäcker , Roman Herzog , Helmut Kohl and Hans-Dietrich Genscher at home and abroad for decades . In 1987 one of his photos of Richard von Weizsäcker was recognized by World Press Photo in the category "People in the News, Stories, Honorable Mention". In 2001 he was awarded the Federal Cross of Merit. His career as a photographer began in the 1970s, when he was one of the first to report for Burda-Verlag about the mountain gorillas in the Congo and exclusively about the reopening of the Suez Canal (1975).
