Helmut Richter (artist)

Helmut Richter (born October 29, 1909 in Zittau ; † April 27, 1994 in Herford ) was a German artist , researcher and conservationist.

Life

Helmut Richter was born on October 29, 1909 in Zittau as the son of Gustav Richter and Ida Richter, b. Lachmann, born. He completed an apprenticeship as an industrial clerk and then worked in his parents' bookstore . Later he took over the management of the company. Because of this position, he repeatedly traveled to Europe for a few months and made the first drawings of the landscapes . Richter also devoted himself artistically to his home in Upper Lusatia .

In 1937 he became a freelancer for the Bavarian State Office for Farm Research in the State Office for Monument Preservation in Munich . Richter worked on the construction manual for the Upper Palatinate , which appeared in 1939. From 1943 until the end of the war , Richter worked on the project “Emergency room in German old towns for the destruction of war” at the Mittelstelle Deutscher Bauernhof. After the war he published other works with regional content.

He is known for his drawings and texts, which deal with the Wittgensteiner Land . To a lesser extent, Richter was active as a painter .

He published a number of village books in the Wittgensteiner Land (including Feudingen 1968, Schameder 1972, Berghausen 1973). He later worked on the third volume of the Wittgensteiner Heimatbuch in 1984.

His drawings by Wittgenstein were published in the book Pictures from Wittgenstein , which was published by Winfried Jakobi and Werner Wied in 1986.

Richter died in Herford on April 27, 1994.

Awards

Richter was awarded the Federal Cross of Merit in 1980 and the Badge of Honor of the German Forest Protection Association in 1981 .
