Helmut Richter (pedagogue)

Helmut Richter (born July 20,  1943 in Willingen ) is a German educational scientist , university teacher and basketball coach .

Life

Richter studied history, German, political science and philosophy at the University of Hamburg . In 1977 his doctoral thesis (title: "On the problem of the unity of theory and practice in Karl Marx: a biographical-systematic study of early Marx") was accepted at the University of Hamburg. From 1978 to 1981 Richter worked as a substitute professor at the University of Hamburg as a substitute professor and then until 1988 as a university assistant at the Faculty of Education. In 1987 Richter completed his habilitation at the University of Hamburg (subject: "Communal pedagogy. Studies on intercultural education in a multicultural society") in educational science with a focus on social pedagogy. Between 1988 and 1993 Richter worked as a substitute professor for social pedagogy at the University of Osnabrück in Vechta . In 1993 he took up a professorship for educational science at the Institute for Social Education, Adult Education and Leisure Education at the University of Hamburg, with a special focus on out-of-school youth education. In 2013 he retired.

As a basketball coach, he and Heiner Zarnack looked after the team of the BC Johanneum Hamburg  in the 2nd basketball league in the 1980s . In 1986 Richter became a member of Walddörfer SV , where he played a role as a player, coach and official for decades. In 2012 he became chairman of the association. As an old man's player, he took part in international competitions such as the over 70 world championship.
