Helmut Sauer (born December 24, 1945 in Quickendorf / Lutomierz ; Frankenstein district in Silesia / Powiat Ząbkowicki ) is a German politician ( CDU ).

Career

Helmut Sauer was expelled from Silesia with his family at the age of four months . He is Roman Catholic and single.

Sauer did a commercial apprenticeship in the property and housing industry at Salzgitter-Wohnungs-AG, the housing company of Salzgitter-AG, later the Preussag Group.

From 1971 to 1993 he was CDU district chairman of Salzgitter, from 1972 to 1974 councilor of the city of Salzgitter.

Sauer was a member of the German Bundestag from 1972 to 1994. He was always elected from the Lower Saxony state list and was a candidate in the Salzgitter-Wolfenbüttel constituency.

From 1989 to 2017 he was federal chairman of the East and Central German Association of the CDU in Germany and in this role had been an advisory member of the CDU federal executive committee since 1990 . In addition, he was Vice President of the Association of Displaced Persons until 2014 and has been state chairman of the Silesian Landsmannschaft in Lower Saxony since 1982 .
