Helmut Thielen

Helmut Thielen (* 1941 ) is a social philosopher , ecologist and agricultural scientist .

Life

Thielen studied social sciences and philosophy in Marburg and Frankfurt from 1962 to 1969 a. a. with Wolfgang Abendroth , Theodor W. Adorno , Jürgen Habermas , Max Horkheimer and Herbert Marcuse . He then went on to study landscape planning, international agricultural development and agroecology in Berlin from 1974–1978 and 1984/1985. In 1988 he received his doctorate at the Technical University in Berlin with a thesis on the problem of agricultural reform and environmental policy in Latin America, case study on the development of agricultural reform and environmental policy in Nicaragua 1979-1989 . In addition to activities in various professional fields - worker in building construction and landscaping, consultant for political education at the industrial union for chemicals, paper, ceramics and the industrial union for metal, engineer / employee in the Berlin Senate Administration, lecturer in sociology and landscape planning in Berlin at the technical department Fachhochschule, Fachhochschule für Sozialpädagogik und Sozialarbeit, Freie und Technische Universität - he worked as a freelance journalist between 1985 and 1994. From 1994 to 1998 he was visiting professor for social-philosophical research at the Federal University of Campo Grande in the Brazilian state of Mato Grosso do Sul with a thesis on the historical-political philosophy of Walter Benjamin (see works below) Jesuit order- led Universidade do Vale do Rio dos Sinos (UNISINOS) in São Leopoldo , Rio Grande do Sul . Thielen's research is devoted to the interdisciplinary construction of a critical theory of emancipatory practice, an unfinished project that began in 1993 (the relevant book publications are marked with an * below). He has published 17 books and numerous articles in magazines and newspapers on both the philosophy of social practice and development opportunities in the regions of the South in Brazil, Germany, México, Switzerland and Venezuela. Today Helmut Thielen is retired and continues his work in the o. G. Project.
