Helmut Zwickl (born October 23, 1939 in Vienna ) is an Austrian motorsport journalist and author.

Life

Zwickl, who is a trained chemist, was interested in motorsport at a young age and was a hobby driver himself. After his learned profession, he first worked as a chemist in a paint factory. From 1960, however, he began to write about motorsport. He met the well-known sports photographer Arthur Fenzlau , for whom he wrote articles about his photos. He came to the courier as early as 1961, where he continues to write his columns to this day. In 1962 he did his military service in the armed forces with a medical company (Stammersdorf). Zwickl also writes for Autorevue (since 1964) and for motorsport . He has also been working for Alles Auto since 1992 .

In 2005 he was one of only five motorsport journalists in the world to receive a lifetime accreditation from Max Mosley .

Zwickl was also with Jochen Rindt from the start of his career. From this situation, too, some books emerged. Besides getting his pilot's license in 1971 and later also his professional pilot's license and flying to the races as a private pilot , he organizes the Ennstal-Classic car veterans' rally . But he was also a racing driver himself for many years. He achieved class victory with an old Volvo at the Carrera Panamericana in Mexico.
