Helmuth Albrecht (historian)

Helmuth Albrecht (born April 8, 1955 in Celle ) is a German historian and university professor . Since 1997 he has been professor for the history of technology and industrial archeology at the TU Bergakademie Freiberg .

Life

Albrecht studied electrical engineering, physics and history at the TU Braunschweig from 1974 to 1980 . After completing his studies, Albrecht took over the management of the university archive in Braunschweig. On December 4, 1984 he received his doctorate as Dr. phil. and then switched to the Department of History as a research assistant.

In 1985 Albrecht left the University of Braunschweig and took a job as a research assistant at the Historical Institute of the University of Stuttgart. In February 1997, he completed his habilitation in the history of natural sciences and technology at the Faculty of History, Social and Economic Sciences at the University of Stuttgart on the history of laser technology in both parts of Germany in the 1960s. In April 1997 he accepted a call to the TU Bergakademie Freiberg and took over the chair for the history of technology and industrial archeology. At the same time he was appointed head of the Institute for Industrial Archeology and the History of Science and Technology. He heads the Ore Mountains Mining Region project group at the TU Bergakademie Freiberg, which is responsible for the scientific part of the UNESCO World Heritage application for the mining region.

He is a grandson of the mountain assessor and politician Helmuth Albrecht of the same name .
