Helmuth Flammer

Helmuth Ernst Flammer (born October 15, 1911 in Heilbronn , † November 15, 1980 in Mainz ) was a German chemist . From 1978 to 1980 he was President of the Synod of the Evangelical Church in Württemberg .

Life and work

During his studies, which he obtained with a doctorate to become Dr.-Ing. graduated, he became involved in the youth movement-reformed association Widar . Flammer had been the owner of the Flammer soap works in Heilbronn since the death of his father Ernst Wilhelm Flammer in 1940 . In 1947, 63 machines in the factory were dismantled by the victorious powers as a reparation payment. From 1950 to 1967 he was a member and chairman of the board of the chemical employers 'association and from 1951 to 1959 he was chairman of the board of the Heilbronn-Hohenlohe employers' association. 1959/60 he was president of the Rotary Club Heilbronn. In 1967 Flammer was elected Vice President of the Heilbronn-Franken Chamber of Commerce and Industry and in 1970 President of this Chamber. He held this office until his death. In 1970 the soap factory Flammer achieved record sales. However, since a market analysis did not confirm that the company would be competitive in the future world market, Flammer shut down operations in the same year. Flammer is said to have a high level of family ties to the employees, for whose accommodation in new positions or severance payments he was very committed.

Church engagement

In 1972 Flammer was elected to the 8th regional synod of the Evangelical Church in Württemberg. He was also a member of the 9th Regional Synod until his death in 1980. He was last elected President by the 9th Regional Synod in 1978. After his unexpected death, the regional synodal Heinz Schnotz took his place. In 1981 Martin Holland was elected President of the 9th Regional Synod as Flammer's successor.

family

Flammer's grandfather Ernst Flammer founded the Kraemer & Flammer company with Viktor Kraemer in 1871 , from which the Flammer soap works emerged after Kraemer's departure in 1884, which his son Ernst Wilhelm Flammer (1872-1940) and his son Helmuth Ernst Flammer continued. From the marriage of Helmuth Ernst Flammer with his wife Ruth geb. Ackermann (1921–2007) had a daughter and two sons, including the composer and musicologist Ernst Helmuth Flammer (* 1949).

Honors

In 1978 Helmuth Flammer received the Baden-Württemberg State Medal of Merit .
