Martin Holland

Martin Holland (born November 14, 1934 in Tübingen ) is a German Protestant theologian and pastor of the Evangelical Church in Württemberg , where he was president of the regional synod from 1981 to 1984 .

Life and work

Holland studied Protestant theology in Tübingen and Hamburg . He passed his service exams in 1959 and 1962. Then from 1963 he was pastor in Ditzingen and from 1969 in Fellbach . In 1979 he was released and became pastor of the Evangelical Brethren Congregation Korntal . In 1990 he was appointed dean of the Neuenbürg church district of the Evangelical Church in Württemberg. He held this office until he retired in 1999.

Church engagement

In addition to his full-time work as a pastor, Holland also had several honorary obligations. From 1969 to 1972 and 1981 to 1998 he was active as chairman of the Albrecht Bengel House association in Tübingen . Until 2006 he was a member of its committee. He was also regional chairman of the Blue Cross and chairman of the Paul Lempp Foundation. Since 1998 he has been the chairman of Wegzeichen in Enzklösterle and on the board of the International Conference of Confessing Communities (IKBG).

In 1966 Holland was elected to the Synod of the Evangelical Church in Württemberg for the first time, of which he was a member until 1989. He was deputy secretary in the 7th regional synod. The 9th regional synod initially elected him deputy president. He was also a member of the Council of Elders and the Standing Committee. After the unexpected death of Synod President Helmuth Flammer , Holland was elected as his successor as President of the State Synod in 1981. In the 10th regional synod, however, he renounced his presidency. His successor was Oswald Seitter in 1984 . However, Holland was still a member of the council of elders and, from 1989, also of the regional church committee. In the 11th regional synod from 1990 onwards, Holland was still a substitute member of the synod. The regional church honored him in 1998 with the Johannes Brenz Medal .

Holland also published some books or was co-editor of theological books. He is also co-editor of the theological quarterly magazine Diakrisis.

Private

Martin Holland is married to Rosmarie . The couple lives in Tübingen.
