Helmuth Niendorf

Helmuth Hermann Albert Niendorf (born January 29, 1896 in Lübeck ; † August 27, 1972 ibid) was a German master mason, union worker and local politician of the SPD.

Life

As a mason, Niendorf was involved in the reconstruction of the Marienkirche in Lübeck, which was destroyed by the air raid on Lübeck . He was a member of the Lübeck citizenship as a local parliament from July 1, 1948 to April 23, 1955. On July 12, 1948, he was elected Senator of the Hanseatic City with responsibility for the interior department and was also deputy mayor until he left the Senate on April 27, 1950. In the period from April 29, 1951 to April 23, 1955 he was mayor of Lübeck; his successor as city president was Walther Böttcher (CDU). After leaving local politics, he refused in June 1955 to accept the Senate honor plaque that had been offered to him. His estate is in the archive of the Hanseatic City of Lübeck .
