Helmuth Renar (* 2 September 1892 in Munich , † 22. July 1967 ) was a German actor of stage and film and theater director .

Live and act

After attending elementary school and high school, Renar was a member of the Bavarian Cadet Corps from 1905 to 1910. He then went to war school in 1910/1911 . In the following years until the end of the First World War, Renar made a career in the military, but had to choose a career change in view of the new conditions after 1918. In 1919 he took acting lessons from Carl Graumann in Munich and made his theater debut that same year (on August 31). His first role was a Swedish soldier in a performance of Schiller's “ Wallenstein ” at the theater in Freiburg im Breisgau. Also in 1919 he came to the Bavarian State Theater as a volunteer and was entrusted with all kinds of batch roles for the next five years. In 1924 Renar switched to the character subject and was employed as a bon vivant from 1932.

At this time Helmuth Renar had already gained his first experience as a film actor: His most important role was the French statesman Talleyrand in Karl Grune's Waterloo film. Even in later years, Renar was mostly used as a high-ranking personality: sometimes he was a public prosecutor, then a count, finally a privy councilor and finally a lord. Nevertheless, the film had only subordinate importance in the artistic work of the Munich resident, who was mainly devoted to the theater.

After returning from the Second World War, in which he served as an officer for the entire time (1939 to 1945), Renar returned to the Bavarian State Theater. Immediately after 1945 he played, among others, Nathan the Wise in the Lessing drama of the same name (1946), Theseus in Phaedra and Beckett in Mord im Dom (both 1947). Every now and then Helmuth Renar has also staged plays: Wiechert's The Prodigal Son (1935), Rehberg's The Seven Years War (1939) and Giraudoux's Undine (1948). In addition, he participated in school radio programs and took part in literary broadcasts.
