Hendrik Johan Kruls (born August 1, 1902 in Amsterdam , † December 13, 1975 in The Hague ) was a Dutch general .

Life

Kruls joined the Dutch armed forces in 1922 as an artillery officer . From 1926 to 1931 he studied law at the University of Utrecht . On April 1, 1939, Kruls was appointed captain to adjutant to Defense Minister Jannes Johannes Cornelis van Dijk . He also held this position under his successor Adriaan Dijxhoorn , whom he accompanied into exile in London.

He headed the military government of the Netherlands from 1944 to 1946 and was promoted to lieutenant general on November 1, 1945 . On May 1, 1949, Kruls was appointed general and at the same time chief of staff of the three Dutch armed forces .

After his military career, Hendrik Johan Kruls worked for the companies American Express and KLM and was involved in journalism. He was married twice and had a daughter from his first marriage.
