Hendrik Lange (born January 20, 1977 in Quedlinburg ) is a German politician ( Die Linke ).

Life and work

Hendrik Lange graduated from the Süderstadtgymnasium Quedlinburg in 1995 . After completing his community service , he studied biology at the Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg (MLU) in 1996 , which he completed in 2005 with a degree in biology .

Hendrik Lange was elected to the student council of the Martin Luther University by the Biology Student Council in 1998 , to which he was a member until 2001. He served as Vice President and President and was a member of the Board of Directors for his final year in office. He was a co-founder of the LesBiSchwulen working group ARCUS and its spokesman. Until 2005, Lange was the spokesman for the Protest Working Group , which essentially coordinated the student protests in Halle against the dismantling of the university landscape and university democracy and against tuition fees .

From 1999 to 2005, Hendrik Lange was a student representative in the academic senate of the Martin Luther University. From 2001 until its legal dissolution, Lange was a member of the council of the MLU.

From October 2005 to April 2006, Lange was a member of the constituency of the state parliament member Rosemarie Hein (Left Party PDS ).

Political party

Hendrik Lange joined the PDS in 2002 and in 2004 became the spokesman for the education working group at the Halle city council and in 2006 spokesman for the state education group in Saxony-Anhalt. He was a candidate of the Left, SPD and Greens for the election of the mayor in Halle in 2019, but was defeated in the runoff election on October 27, 2019 to the incumbent incumbent Bernd Wiegand .

Lange has been a member of the city ​​council of the independent city of Halle since 2004, where he has been the spokesman for education policy and deputy chairman of his parliamentary group since he took office. He was also deputy chairman from 2009 to 2014 and chairman of the city council from 2014 to 2019.

In March 2006, Lange was elected to the state parliament of Saxony-Anhalt via the state list of the Linkspartei.PDS . He was deputy chairman of the Committee on Education, Science and Culture and the spokesman for university, science and technology policy of the left group . In 2011 he again moved into the state parliament via the state list of the DIE LINKE party and was spokesman for university and science policy as well as adult education. Since the state elections in 2016 he has been the spokesperson for high, science and technology policy, network policy and environmental policy. He is a member of the Economic, Scientific and Digital Committee and the Environment Committee.

Social Commitment

Hendrik Lange is the chairman of the Rosa Luxemburg Foundation in Saxony-Anhalt. He is the chairman of the BBZ “Lebensart” e. V., who has been advocating the interests of sexual minorities in the south of Saxony-Anhalt since 1990. He is a member of the association of the community college " Adolf Reichwein " in Halle.
