Henioche (mother of Melanthos)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Henioche ( Greek  Ἡνιόχη ) is a figure in Greek mythology .

According to Hellanikos of Lesbos , Henioche was the daughter of Harmenios (or Armenios), son of Zeuxippos , and came from the family of the kings of Pherai in Thessaly , which dates back to Admetus . She was the wife of the Neleiden Andropompos , with whom she had Melanthos as a son. But Melanthos was the founder of the mythical royal dynasty of the Melanthids in Athens , who ended the long rule of the Kekropiden there.

Just as Armenios may have been the eponymous hero of the Armenians , Henioche may have been the namesake for the Heniochen, neighboring the Armenians on the Caucasian coast of the Black Sea .
