Henk Vermetten (1930)

Hendrik Arnoldus "Henk" Vermetten (born August 19, 1895 in Kralingen , † August 7, 1964 in Scheveningen ) was a Dutch football player . With the national team he took part in the 1924 Olympic Games in Paris .

Vermetten worked for HBS Craeyenhout from The Hague from 1921 to 1935 , who became Dutch champions in 1925 . In 268 games for HBS's first team, the left-back scored 16 goals. He was considered a tough defender who was almost impossible to get past.

Vermetten was appointed to the national team in the run-up to the Olympic Games in 1924. Although he was not yet able to record any use for Oranje , he was also part of the KNVB squad who traveled to France. Here Vermetten came only in the "small final" - on June 8, 1924 against Sweden - as well as his first appearance for his home country like Jan Oosthoek and Klaas Breeuwer (for which it was the only international match). After the 1-1 draw forced a play-off, Vermetten was able to play his second international match again the next day at the Stade de Colombes . He then came, among other things, the following year against the German Reich in the 2-1 victory in Amsterdam as team captain . It then took five years before he was allowed to play again in Oranje : only in 1930 with a 1-3 defeat in Belgium and - again as captain - at 2-6 in Hungary he made his international matches five and six, which are also his last should.
