Henning Allmer

Henning Allmer (* 1940 in Dresden-Albertstadt ) is a German sports psychologist and university professor .

Life

Allmer finished his education in 1961 with the Abitur at a school in Cologne , followed by a degree in psychology and journalism at Johannes Gutenberg University in Mainz until 1968 . From 1969 to 1972 Allmer  held an assistant position at the Albert Ludwig University of Freiburg . His doctoral thesis was accepted at the University of Mainz in 1973, the topic was "On the diagnosis of achievement motivation: Construction of a sport-specific motivation questionnaire".

From 1972 Allmer worked at the Psychological Institute of the German Sport University Cologne (DSHS), from 1974 as a scientific assistant. In 1976 he completed his habilitation at the DSHS and was promoted to university professor a year later. From 1980 until his release in 2006 he headed the health psychology department within the Psychological Institute and was director of the institute from 2003 to 2006. From 1983 to 1989 Allmer was dean of Faculty I, from 2002 prorector and from 1996 member of the habilitation committee. From 1997 to 2003 Allmer was the first chairman of the working group for sport psychology in Germany .

His main research interests included stress and relaxation research, emotional psychology, sports over the life course, including senior sports, health psychology, adventure sports, and sports and ethics.
