Henning Brandis (born July 17, 1916 in Elberfeld , † November 16, 2004 in Bonn ) was a German microbiologist.

Career

Brandis was born the son of the Reich judge Bernhard Brandis ; his grandfather was the botanist and inspector general of the Indian Forestry Office (Sir) Dietrich Brandis . From 1936 to 1942 he studied medicine in Frankfurt am Main and Marburg. After receiving his doctorate, he served as a medical officer for the last three years of the war. In 1952 the habilitation followed.

From 1957 he was a full professor for hygiene at the University of Göttingen . In 1967 he accepted a call to the chair for medical microbiology and immunology at the University of Bonn . At the same time he was director of the university's institute of the same name. In 1974 he was elected a member of the Scholars Academy Leopoldina , in 1984 he was retired.

He was editor of the journal for immunity research and, with Hans Jürgen Otte, of the textbook Medical Microbiology founded by Heinz Reploh and Hans Jürgen Otte .
